What is a pwi college?

A PWI (Predominantly White Institution) college is a higher education institution where the majority of students, faculty, and staff are White. These colleges tend to have a lower representation of minority groups compared to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).

PWI colleges are often criticized for their lack of diversity and inclusion, as well as for perpetuating systemic inequalities in education. However, some students may choose to attend a PWI for a variety of reasons, such as academic programs, location, facilities, and opportunities for networking and career advancement.

It is important for PWI colleges to actively work towards promoting diversity and inclusion on their campuses, through initiatives such as recruitment and retention programs for minority students, faculty and staff, multicultural events and clubs, and anti-discrimination policies. By creating a more inclusive environment, PWI colleges can provide a more enriching educational experience for all students.
